 ASUU conditionally Suspend 9 months strike The Academic Staff Union of University, on Wednesday, suspended its strike, ending the industrial action that started since March 2020. ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja. He said the suspension of the strike takes effect from Thursday, December 24th, 2020. Ogunyemi also said the lecturers sympathised with students who were also their children, adding that “no amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments.” While warning that the union would return to strike without notice if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers, Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate.

ASUU STRIKE: GOVT Has Met 98% of ASUU demand , Universities to resume by.........   Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige said Monday that the federal government has met 98% of the demands of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, assuring Nigerians that the nation’s universities are likely to reopen by January next year. Addressing reporters at Alor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State during the flag-off of medical outreach in the town, the minister said final decisions will be taken on Tuesday during a meeting he would hold with ASUU leadership in Abuja.

BREAKING: Osun shuts schools indefinitely Osun State Government, on Thursday, directed all primary and secondary schools in the state to proceed on Christmas and New Year break, starting from Friday. This was contained in a Public Service Announcement signed by the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Education, K. Olaniyan. The government stated that the decision to shut down both private and public schools was for safety reasons without indicating the resumption date. There have been safety concerns over the rising cases of COVID-19 recorded in the state. ASUU has agreed to call of its eight-month strike

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities has agreed to call of its eight-month strike which has grounded academic activities in the public universities. The union leadership reached the consensus during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment,  Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja, on Friday. The government also pledged to increase the total payment to the union to N70 billion. This is happening one week after the Federal Government  accepted the demand by the ASUU that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

 ASUU chapters voting to call off strike or not - see results ASUU chapters in various institutions are currently voting on whether to continue the current strike action or to call it off. Remember that ASUU members met at University of Lagos on 21st Nov to discuss whether to suspend the strike or not. This meeting was necessary following the outcome of the ASUU/FG meeting held on 20th Nov. The  FG offered the union N65 billion, and suspended the use of IPPIS . ASUU had then concluded to continue consulting and agreed to get back to the Federal Government (FG) on Friday 27th Nov, after their consultations. FUOYE lecturers disown ASUU Zonal Coordinator over damaging comments on mgt Strong indications emerged, on Wednesday, that lecturers at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, have again disowned Professor Olu Olu, the ASUU Zonal Coordinator. This was done in reaction to comments which the ASUU Zonal Coordinator made against the FUOYE University management in a recent newspaper interview. Also, other key members of the union have come out to, again, disown Prof Olu, over comments he passed against the outgoing VC and his management team in a recent interview he granted a nation denying all allegations of mismanagement Professor Olu held against the VC and his  management team, the zonal members of ASUU said Olu was speaking only for himself and not for any member of ASUU in FUOYE.

  21, including schoolchildren, die in Enugu auto crash ENUGU— No fewer than 21 persons, including schoolchildren, have been crushed to death in Agwu, Enugu State, on their way from school. READ Also:  Police arrest man who allegedly kills friend to inherit truck The pupils were of the Presentation Nursery and Primary School, Awgu, operated by the Catholic Diocese of Awgu, Enugu State. They were crushed when a truck belonging to a construction firm rammed into the school bus when it failed break. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident and attributed it to a mechanical fault. It was learned that the deaths included nursery primary and secondary school children. The bus was carrying a total of 52 people, including teachers.

 Police arrest man who allegedly kills friend to inherit truck Kwara State police commissioner, Mr Kayode Egbetokun on Wednesday paraded a suspect one, Jamiu Suleiman, a truck driver based in Lagos who allegedly killed his friend, ’’Baba Oyin’’ because he wanted to possess his truck since he doesn’t have one. Jamiu in an interview with Vanguard at the premises of police headquarters in Ilorin said he had been envious of his friend who owns a lorry truck, and therefore made up his mind to kill him, and collect the truck from him, with the intention of bringing it to Ilorin his home town and be using it for business. He said he, therefore, bought a gun of N70,000.00 from one of the cult boys in Ikorodu with which he killed his friend, “Baba Oyin’’.
