 ASUU conditionally Suspend 9 months strike The Academic Staff Union of University, on Wednesday, suspended its strike, ending the industrial action that started since March 2020. ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja. He said the suspension of the strike takes effect from Thursday, December 24th, 2020. Ogunyemi also said the lecturers sympathised with students who were also their children, adding that “no amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments.” While warning that the union would return to strike without notice if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers, Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate.

ASUU STRIKE: GOVT Has Met 98% of ASUU demand , Universities to resume by.........   Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige said Monday that the federal government has met 98% of the demands of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, assuring Nigerians that the nation’s universities are likely to reopen by January next year. Addressing reporters at Alor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State during the flag-off of medical outreach in the town, the minister said final decisions will be taken on Tuesday during a meeting he would hold with ASUU leadership in Abuja.

BREAKING: Osun shuts schools indefinitely Osun State Government, on Thursday, directed all primary and secondary schools in the state to proceed on Christmas and New Year break, starting from Friday. This was contained in a Public Service Announcement signed by the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Education, K. Olaniyan. The government stated that the decision to shut down both private and public schools was for safety reasons without indicating the resumption date. There have been safety concerns over the rising cases of COVID-19 recorded in the state.
